Wicked: For Good completes the film adaptation of the Broadway musical. It covers the show’s second act; the decision to split the story in two was made so nothing important had to be cut.

What is Wicked: For Good about?

Elphaba and Glinda have taken on new identities: Elphaba is now branded the Wicked Witch of the West and fights for the rights of Oz’s Animals from a hideout in the forest, while Glinda is the Wizard’s glamorous public face. Their story begins to overlap with the events of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, including the arrival of a girl from Kansas.

Wicked: For Good cast

Cynthia Erivo returns as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda, with Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Ethan Slater as Boq, Marissa Bode as Nessarose, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible and Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard. Colman Domingo voices the Cowardly Lion.

New songs

Two original songs were written for the film: “No Place Like Home” for Elphaba and “The Girl in the Bubble” for Glinda. The rest of the soundtrack follows the stage show’s second act, including the duet “For Good” that gives the film its title.

What critics said

The reaction was much cooler than for the first film. It scored 66% on Rotten Tomatoes and 58 on Metacritic. Critics praised Erivo and Grande and the production design, but many found the pacing slow, the tone darker and the ties to The Wizard of Oz clumsy. Audiences were happier, giving it an A CinemaScore. After the first film’s ten Oscar nominations, the sequel received none.

Box office

It grossed about $540 million worldwide, below the first film but still the second-highest-grossing Oz film and musical adaptation ever.

Where to stream Wicked: For Good

It has streamed on Peacock since March 20, 2026, and on Netflix since July 20, 2026.

Is Wicked: For Good worth watching?

If you saw the first film, yes: you will want the ending, and the lead performances carry it. Just expect a heavier, slower film than Part One. For a musically driven film with better reviews, see our guide to Sinners.
