Spider-Man: No Way Home ended with the whole world forgetting Peter Parker. Brand New Day picks up four years later, and audiences turned up in historic numbers: its $360 million domestic opening passed Avengers: Endgame for the biggest opening weekend ever.

What is Spider-Man: Brand New Day about?

Nobody remembers who Peter Parker is, so he protects New York alone and anonymously, with no Avengers to call and no friends who know his secret. As he takes on more and more by himself, his powers start to change, just as a powerful telepath emerges as a new threat. It is a smaller, more street-level story than the multiverse film before it, which is exactly what Marvel promised.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day cast

Tom Holland returns as Peter Parker, with Zendaya as MJ and Jacob Batalon as Ned, both of whom now know Peter only as a stranger. Sadie Sink plays Jean Grey, the young telepath at the centre of the story. Jon Bernthal brings Frank Castle, the Punisher, onto the big screen, Mark Ruffalo returns as Bruce Banner and Florence Pugh appears as Yelena Belova. Tramell Tillman plays Bill Metzger of the Department of Damage Control, and Michael Mando is back as Mac Gargan, the Scorpion. Street-level villains include Tombstone, Boomerang, Tarantula and the ninja clan the Hand.

What critics said

Reviews were largely positive, with a 90% Tomatometer at opening. Critics praised Holland’s most grown-up performance in the role, the action and the more character-driven story. The main reservations were about how much the film juggles, with a large cast of guest characters competing for screen time.

Box office

Beyond the record $360 million domestic opening, the film took about $932 million worldwide in its first weekend, second only to Endgame. It has since grossed about $2.51 billion, making it the highest-grossing Spider-Man film, the biggest film of 2026 and the third-highest-grossing film of all time.

Where to watch

It is still in cinemas. Sony has not yet announced digital or streaming dates; Sony’s Spider-Man films have previously gone to digital rental first and then to Netflix in the US, with Disney+ following later. Check our now playing page for what else is in theaters.

Is Spider-Man: Brand New Day worth watching?

Yes, especially if No Way Home left you wanting a simpler Spider-Man story. It is Marvel’s most confident film in years. For another superhero reboot, read our guide to Superman (2025).
